Love me or leave me alone (2003) Duane Hopkins

This was one of the Drama/Experimental short films we were shown. I believe that the themes were that of confusion and the lack of communication, and the main focus was to show how these could affect adolescents who are trying to be in a relationship. It's a realistic piece that most viewers would be able to connect to, displaying the insecurities, and pointless fights that young relationships seem to entail. I think the subject matter is shown well; the use of long takes helps the viewers interact more, and get a real sense of the tension between the characters.

What stood out to me with this film, was the unexplicit sex scene, and how the narrative seemed to jump between different times, giving the viewer a slight confusion about whether what they're seeing actually is happening, or is just the reality of them kissing, mixed with the fantasy of them having sex. This scene also seemed really emotional and raw to me and i think if it was any more explicit, it would have taken away that effect.

Honestly, I couldn't say I enjoyed, it was an interesting way of showing those themes, and I think a large part of why I didn't like it was because the characters quickly annoyed me. However, when I thought back on it, I realised that it was a well made piece and I think if I ever have the chance to watch it again (because at the moment I can't find it anywhere!), I may have a different opinion.
